by having jobs lined up is more than half the battle , the crime isn't that obvious to vacationers because most of the violent crimes are committed by people who know each other, they are not typically random crimes. with the exception of burglaries to unoccupied homes. And despite what some people will lead you to believe that it's getting worse, crime statistics have been improving. and if you are near the new york side of nj you should have no problem with the crime in Naples . another thing is a lot of the people that are negative NEVER owned a home in the area, and there is a difference between living in an apartment complex with a very mixed range of people vs single family home neighborhoods , I have done both in my life even within the same town and it's different.

So........ come on down, but stay home, and dont get to know anyone. You'll be just fine.

But seriously, I do agree, as long as you have a job, that is stable, you just might make a go of it. If you lose your job once you get here..... Dont dawdle around, get out fast.

I think 12184 is talking about me. I lived in Florida for ten years and never bought a home. Had five weeks of the school system, yanked the kid out and moved to Tennessee.

First of all, just because you rent does not mean that you live in an apartment complex. We lived in single family homes in "nice" neighborhoods, too.

nj593, I am from the Northeast, too. You are right. There are bad towns up there that no one moves to. Not down in southwest Florida. You could be in a gated community and the neighbor could be a drug dealer. It happens. Often.

Another big difference is schools. When we say "bad" schools up north, well, those are usually the "good" schools down there.

Yes, aida. I am getting very sick of vacation spin.

How do you know "negative" people have never owned a home before?
How do you know, that crime statistics are improving?
How do you know that crimes rates are higher in apt./condo buildings than in single houses?

For the past two years, every single day, housing prices are following in Cape Coral. Not because of New Detached Condos but because of poor construction of Cape Coral economy.

As opposed to "positive spinners", people who write critically about Cape Coral are not purely self-interested. They care for others and observe social norms.

Thousands of unemployed have no choice but to go inside single family homes, day and night, to steal. News-press reports daily on "single family house" robberies.

Desperation, I am sure, you understand this definition.

We started to look in Cape Coral but recently changed our minds due to areas. Then we start looking at Naples and certain zip codes have burglaries and murders above the national avg.
So!
Here is what I have and what we are looking for.
I would like to see if someone could direct me to a town that is nice and affordable that is not separated by these comments of well its nice 7 blocks down but not crossing this street. We dont work like that here in NJ. If there is a bad town we just dont live there only scumbags do.
I understand obviously that the more money we have the better quality of living. But im still in college finishing my grad degree but would like to buy my first home for my children before they get to old to enjoy a dog and a yard.

So i would like to buy in a rural area near some towns within 10 minutes drive. I would like to keep it under 100k with 3 bedrooms and some land if possible. I see this is possible in Naples but then again like i said im lost with this hole dont go this way or that way because its bad. I looked at a home on 14th st even Pine cone lane and the avg murder rate was higher than the national avg. How is this possible ? What are the murders from in such a low population?
I thought it was all seniors in SW florida?
Is there any other areas that are affordable yet still nice left?

The house Im looking at currently falls in 14th street NE Naples. What is the opinion of this area?

Also I work in Social Service and my wife works as a manager in restaurants.
My kids are in elementary school.
I moved here to SWFL a little over a year ago from NJ... There are a LOT of things here that are different. First of all, in NJ if you hear someone is from a certain town, you knew automatically if they were from a nice area or not. That is not always the case here.

Second, make sure you have solid jobs lined up before you move (and hope you are not going to loose them once you are here). When I moved it took me over 6 months to find a job. If you talk to someone here and they say they have been looking for a job for a year (in just about any field other than medical), chances are they are not exaggerating.

Just keep researching the area to make sure it is the right place for you and your family to move Go on to the local newspaper web sites. There are websites you can go on to to compare city statistics side by side. I wish you all the best in your search!

Less growth, less population, less demand, closing businesses, etc. a downward spiral.

Now, "deflation" is feared. NEW condos in a beautiful setting are only sold for $70000. source: news-press.

Too bad for all speculators who are buying with the illusion that prices will go up. Speculators have no idea that construction companies are always one step ahead in grabbing buyers with new design and products.

Many people want to leave and are just waiting for speculators to buy their old homes. In this sense, I hope many homes get sold so that old folks can get out. With their money, now, they can afford to live in better new places, away from contaminated homes with Chinese Dry Walls in their neighborhoods.

Not true at all. I have been in the apartment complex business for the last 15 years since I came to wonderful Florida, and it makes NO difference at all in what it is like, sorry. That is from my 15 years experience in a home in a nice neighborhood AND living at the apartment communities.
