Did you not come look at Arlington before you moved here?

Have you been to North East Mall? It's not in Arlington but it's only about 15 minutes from the northern reaches of Arlington and depending on exactly where you are it may even be closer than the Parks.

I live in Arlington. And threads such as this are what's most frustrating about living in Arlington.

There are many superb neighborhoods here. Most people hear, "Arlington" and see some version of an "Escape from LA" crime-infested, polluted, UsedCarsBailBondsPayDayLoanStripClub-type hellhole.

And for big chunks of the city, that's true. Especially North Arlington, starting somewhere in the late 1990s. What a tragedy. But that's best reserved for another thread. But for other chunks, it's not true. There are many established, tree-lined neighborhoods with sidewalks, children playing, and okay schools. You have to look for them, but they're there, and they aren't going anywhere.

Look, I'm a pretty well educated CPA. We live on a picturesque cul-de-sac on a creek with old oak trees. The worst crime we've ever seen in this neighborhood was someone breaking into my car to take my laptop case 5 years ago. If Arlington was really as bad as people on this board make it out to be, then we'd sell our house for liquidation value and bail out. But it isn't. Yes, we are looking to move, but that's because we've outgrown the house. We need 6 bedrooms instead of 4.

Anyway - rant over. Thanks and apologies. =)

The western parts of Arlington are very tree lined picturesque neighborhoods that are well established and away from most of the concreteville that the central arteries are known for.

The east side is terrible but most Arlingtonites don't ever venture there and for the most part is removed from the rest of our town. The north side has a huge over abundance of rentals and apartments that contributes to its demise.

Some of these posts are just ridiculous and over exaggerated....Hell these posters act like Arlington is the Lower 9th ward of New Orleans....

North Arlington has some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in all of Arlington. Tanglewood, Prestonwood........nothing to match the beauty in south Arlington. South Arlington east of Cooper is a sea of tract houses riding the tides of disrepair. Southwest Arlington has some nice housing and highly rated elementary schools. But the terrain of North Arlington is among the most beautiful in all the DFW area!

If you plan on commuting through Arlington and own a sports car, it may be in your best interest to stay far North close to Green Oaks. These are the only roads you won't scrape or bottom out.

"Downtown" Arlington has too many intersections with dips, potholes, train tracks and other driving nuisances.
