that Bedford slow down is at Central Drive exit right after the 114 Hwy dumps into 183--and there is automatic right lane exit at Norwood so people are trying to get over to avoid that in short distance--
hopefully today will be better...

Thanks for the well-wish, l2r. The good news w/ today's commute (Day 2) was that I didn't get lost or take any wrong turns. The bad news is that there was even more traffic this morning compared to last morning.

It took me about 1:35 to get to Dallas this morning and "just" 1:05 this evening to return home in FW. Round trip driving distance was 88 miles.

Day 3 commute will be tomorrow ...

Here's a quick update from my Day 3 commute. It took me 1:25 to get to Dallas this morning (best yet!) and 1:50 to return to FW (worst yet!). However, this evening, I went straight to the gym instead of home. But that should've been roughly a similar commute (went to Ridgmar Mall area instead of my house in the Lake Worth area).

I paid $0.00 in tolls. I drove on Rt. 161, which parallels George Bush Tpke., to save on the toll. On the downside, I encountered traffic lights.

Tomorrow will be my final day of commuting to Dallas.

Here's my final update of the FW to Dallas commute. It took me 1:25 to get to work and about 1:30 to return home. Traffic is mainly on Rts. 820, 183 (both in Tarrant County) and 635 Dallas County). I feel sorry for those who have to make this commute daily for months and years.

I'm looking forward to my 24-mi. round-trip commute within FW when I go back to the office.

curious to know what the other people in your training class were saying about traffic--I think you said that some of them came from Tarrant co and some were actually farther away than you...

Good question. All 5 of us are from Tarrant County. The one farthest away (Hulen area) couldn't make the trip b/c of last minute work activities. So another coworker took his spot. That other coworker lives in Hurst.

The other 3 live in Trophy Club, Arlington, and Mansfield. All 4 of them had a commute time of 45-60 min. in each direction. So my commute from Lake Worth/Saginaw area (~1.5 hrs. in each direction) were by far the longest.

I now know north Dallas pretty well - at least the roads I took.

The one from Hurst was inside the 820 interchange and the others did not have to use it--can see why they were somewhat faster...your location was probably one of the worst for making that particular trip == which is why most of us say to newcomers--find out where your job is first then think about housing...

Yes, you're right that people moving to the D/FW area would be wise to ask where are good places to live that avoid peak rush hour traffic flow once they know exactly where they'll be working.

I went to Irving today, and of course, the commute on Loop 820 and Rt. 183 was much better. I went to Texas Stadium. I'm surprised how there are absolutely no signs how to get there! If I didn't know that I had to take Loop 12 N. from Rt. 183 to get there, I wouldn't have found the place. Shame on Irving for no signs. Back in NJ, there are signs on all the major highways near the Meadowlands instructing people how to get to Giants Stadium.

What's worse, in Irving, upon leaving TX Stadium, they don't tell you how to get back on Rt. 183. I took Loop 12 S. and then didn't know what to do. So I went on Rt. 114 W. just to go in a westward direction. I then saw Bush Tpke., and thanks to my commute from last week, that felt like home to me. So I took that south (Rt. 161 part to avoid tolls) to Rt. 183 E.

I would go the 287 to 114 to Grapevine, get on 121 north for a very short time hit 635 to beltline Rd. all the way across to Addison. It is not as far north as you think and much quicker. I would not pay for George Bush because I am not going to pay to drive on a road.
