Our daughter will start 1st grade in the Fall and we are currently looking for a private school, preferably Montessori, for her.

She is currently enrolled at a Primrose Private-K program and is doing very well. Her teacher says that she is very focused, self-motivated, artistic, and curious. Her teacher also has had some Montessori experience with her own children (and, actually, it wasn't great in the sense that her daughter was not a good match for Montessori education and she ended up taking her out). Given that experience, what she knows about Montessori from some of her own college coursework, etc., she recommended Montessori school for our daughter. She was very positive about it.

We are scheduled to tour Barbara Gordon in Colleyville and Highland Meadows in Southlake.

We live in Grapevine (but on the edge near Southlake); and given my work location (183 & 360), schools in Grapevine, Southlake, Colleyville, and Bedford or Euless would be best, location wise. Although, we want to find the right school, too.

Any suggestions or experiences with Montessori schools in this area?

Thanks in advance for any help!

-L

most people I know who are teachers have a high regard for Barbara Gordon

but they also say that children who were in Montresorri environment sometimes have difficult transition into public school later...because public schools are more curricula driven
if you decide to go that route--make sure that your local public school really DOES things like small, individual group work and allows students some autonomy in their work--also if they have g/t program in the early grades that encompasses more daily time and not just one day a week that would be something to look for...
my daughter teaches in FL now that she is married and moved--and FL does their g/t/high iq programs differently than TX because of their school organization--she teaches 3rd grade at the G/T/high IQ school (2-12) for ALL Sarasota county--so curriculum is totally geared for that level--many kids though have gotten boost on their test results to qualify because parents went to private psychologists for testing who fudged results---and those kids are really frustrated in accelarated environment--and so is she for them...
best of luck--sounds like your daughter is what most teachers say they want in a student--it is just difficult to accomodate their needs in class of 22-24 when majority of students are below grade level and need emotional support as well as instructional support...

There's also Clariden in Southlake. They're Montessori at lower levels and then college prep--I believe, Middle school through 12th grade. I know a couple of families there that are very pleased with it.
