My husband and I live in Houston and have the choice of moving to the Fort Worth area due to my husbands job. We are in our early 30's.

We would like to live in the suburbs. We live in the Woodlands now and have heard that we would like Southlake.

Can anyone let us know what is different about this area compared to the Woodlands?

Thank you!

We live in Houston, as well and are moving up to Ft. Worth this summer. We live in N.W. Houston (Cy-Fair), but used to live in The Woodlands. We loved it there. So beautiful. We drove around the Ft.Worth area a couple of weekends ago and out of everything we looked at, we liked Southlake the best. But I have to say...doesn't compare to The Woodlands! Not impressed at all with anything up that way, unfortunately. Am not wanting to leave Houston now...depressing. We won't be buying in Southlake just because we don't want to put our 10th grade son in the athletic program there. Don't know where we're gonna end up.

Southlake is nice, but we live in the Hurst/North Richland Hills area and love it. It's hard to recommend something; I'd need to know more about your budget. Southlake can be very expensive. No, Fort Worth doesn't look like the Woodlands, but neither does most of Houston either. There are some very beautiful areas in the DFW metroplex though. I couldn't live in Houston mainly because I don't take to high humidity.

I grew up in HOUSTON, the woodlands is not Houston. Memorial, galleria, Briarpark, river oaks, etc... those are Houston. The woodlands is a city unto itself.

Southlake is somewhat close to the vibe of the woodlands, but to me doesn't compare. Southlake is a suburb and has some buisnesses and shopping etc... and has upscale housing etc...
But the woodland is literally in the woods, you can drive around and not notice the office parks etc... because they are hidden. It also encompases a very large area, Southlake is smaller.

The humidity in Houston can be oppressive.
But...because of that houston is greener and very lush compared to DFW.

Southlake is also more expensive you will be very limited finding a 4 bedroom house in Southlake under 400k.

To me Plano more resembles the woodlands economonicly (not appearence) and size wise etc...

But...only you can decide, it's not that far, come up and visit for a weekend and see for yourself. I think you'll be hard pressed to find anything in DFW that matches the woodlands.

Default Keller might work?

We just don't have the lovely trees that you guys have down there. I feel Keller TX is a nice town with lots of nice homes and parks. It is more affordable than Grapevine/Southlake/Colleyville and the schools seem pretty good. Also, the Flower Mound/Highland Village area is nice. The schools are good and crime is very little. You can find homes with trees if you look hard enough. The Ft. Worth side of the Metroplex seems to be more hilly and treed, in my opinion. Keller, FLower Mound, and Highland Village are kind of in-between the DFW areas. So good for commuting to Dallas or Ft. Worth.
Also, in my neighborhood, we have ponds with ducks and nice trails..and homes here go for around 275k and up NEW!
