A lot of it is coming from sprawl outside of the loop to the south and west.

Ok. I know I've read a lot about growth on the north, west and southwestern sides. I'm assuming the east, northeast and southeastern sides have little growth. Am I right? Not that it really means anything but at it's current growth rate I wouldn't be surprised if one day the city population of FW catches up to the city population of Dallas.

Dallas is 383.4 mi² and Fort Worth is 355.6 mi² so not necessarily. Fort Worth currently has more empty land but most of the development is those areas is pretty suburban. I have seen some infill lately in some established areas of the city though.

Walsh Ranch to the west and the development along Chisolm Trail Parkway are allowing the city to sprawl out those directions in the same way that the areas north of 820 exploded over the last 20 years.
