Tankless water heaters are much more expensive to purchase than tank water heaters.

Lot depends on your gas intake line but remember that the cost of NG goes up too
And in winter when there are icy spells there is a special surcharge that can really add to the cost of using NG

I'll stick with tank, but I'll go to 40 from the current 50 gal. Previous owner was a plumber, he installed a pre-heating something gizmo that gives us almost instant hot water whenever we flip a faucet. Pretty cool.
