I had a friend who has made it a point to call me cheap, tight and really gotten down on me for going to Goodwill. Well, I've defended myself to a certain point and on several occasions she has told me I should fly her to wherever I happen to be living at the time as she always says she has no money.

So what is your experience and how have you handled it if/when someone calls you cheap or criticizes you for going to thrift stores? Also, do you hide it from people or ever make up stories for where you got such and such?

No, my family calls me wasteful for even bothering to shop at thrift stores and for living in California!

They would no longer be my friend. Friends don't do that to each other.

I am a proud frugal person and I tell everyone that. A penny saved is a penny earned. People are rich for a reason.

What you do is none of their business. At the end, you have money and she does not. Do you listen to Dave Ramsey?

Last time I knew, it wasn't polite to ask OR TELL the price of an item. If someone asks where you bought something (or what it cost), just say "Oh my, I can't even remember where I got this (or how much I paid for it), but I'm glad I did!".

I understant.. I mean that it's not necessarily impolite to ask. How you answer is another story.

I tend to tell the truth because I simply don't care or have anything to be ashamed of. But then again, I'm not as frugal as many here either... or in the same way atleast.
