So I went to a bar the other day with a friend and his wife. Drank a few beers, they did too with 2 appetizers and the tab...$92 with tax/15%tip Well, he offered to split the bill but I took care of the entire tab this time as many months ago my friend paid my tab which was around $25...$92/2 = $46 vs $25.. not exactly equitable so I overpaid by about $20...am I just being a cheap bostard here in lamenting about $20? Or just being the frugal person that I should be in this economy??
Just plug it into your books and move forward. When you do your regular rebudgeting and analysis of your books, you'll see if you it's become problematic and assess it. But I wouldn't spend too much time on this single event.

OMG, I've never paid anything close to that at a bar. I think the most I've spent is $6. I only drink rarely, and if I do, I get a bottle of wine. When I go to bars (which isn't often), I get club soda.
You went out one time and had a good time on a $50 tab. It's a good idea to get out and treat yourself every now and then. It's good for your health.
If you work hard and never take a moment to have a good time, you're going to drive yourself to an early death.
Don't let other people's situations keep you from rewarding yourself for your hard work.
Also, when you're cooking at home, $40 can go a long way. They aren't eating ramen noodles.
To make you feel better, I regularly drop several hundred at bars when I entertain.
It's possible to have a nice life without blowing $50 at a bar. In fact, I'd argue it's a nicer life without it, but I know, I'm weird.
Maybe you have the cash to blow a few hundred bucks at a bar. But most of us really don't have that kind of income (eg...where a few hundred bucks is no big deal).

The guy offered to split the tab and you declined. The guy picked up the tab "many months ago" and you just now got around to returning the favor.
Sorry, but everything here pretty much points to you being a cheap bastard.
Besides, if you were really being frugal you would have picked up a 12-pack and a box of Gino's pizza rolls at the grocery store and invited them to your place.

but I am saying it wasn't a equitable split...I returned almost double of the favor than I took, that is what I am saying. He spent $25 on me and I had no option but to spend $45 on him because I felt obligated to pickup the tab this time around...so you're saying it's cheap to care about overpaying by $20?
