I bought a sandwich at Subway today and ordered "extra cheese". That is 2 slices of cheese cut diagonal to make 4 small slices.

Then they charged me $1.50 for the extra cheese!

I won't do that again.

I rarely eat out. The last time I went there I think it was 50 or 75 cents for extra cheese - a more reasonable price.

I stopped buying soda pop at fast food restaurants a LONG time ago because it tasted watered down and twice the price of convenience stores.

Well, to be fair, everything has gone up, including the price of food. The cheese costs them more so they pass that on to the customer.

Irrespective of the prices of everything going up, $1.50 is obscene. That's dern near the amount for
1/4 lb. of cheese.

Big picture, Subway is no bargain. I was nickeled and dimed to death a week ago when I went there.

I'm from Philly and know good hoagies and subs....Subway doesn't cut it. Thank goodness I've
found a spot that serves copious premium meats and cheeses on very good fresh baked rolls.
Later for the economically challenged Subway.

That $1.50 isn't just paying for cheese. It's paying for increased expenses in rent, utilities, etc. Given the economy, less people are eating out. The overheads have to be covered in order to remain in business.

I wait for the occasional big weekly discounted cheese. This week I got two 2-pound blocks of cheese for $5 each, that's $2.50 a pound and about the best price that can be had in these parts. It rarely gets cheaper than that, and never below $2 per pound.

$1.50 for extra cheese seems high to me. Seriously, I was thinking at that rate how much would you pay for a pizza with extra cheese if the pizza joints did calculations like that? I quit eating at Subway when the bread became so dry and tough and the filling so skimpy. It's just a sandwich!

Agreed - that is pretty ridiculous.

I seriously doubt that Subway "cheese" is real cheese. It is like that horrible Velveeta that is made from oil. I sure wouldn't pay $1.50 for a slice of that!

I ate at our Subway here once. I concluded that I could make a MUCH better sandwich at home. To say I wasn't impressed would be an understatement.
