Hi,

I live way out in the boonies of San Diego and though we have 3 markets serving a small population, the prices are quite high. Recently, my car broke down making the monthly, 50 mile trek to Walmart not possible. I have seen a number of "discount" on line grocery shipping companies, but they are significantly higher than even the local mom and pops. I do not do much cooking, but would be looking for basic staples. I would like to start buying on line and having them shipped here even after the car is fixed. But I was wondering if anyone out there had suggestions for the best prices.

Eric

I buy staples from amazon.com. Some for their prices; others because my local store no longer carries them.

I also buy a lot of food items from Amazon. If you decide to do that, it's worth the $$$ to sign up for Amazon Prime shipping, For $79.00/year, you get free 2-day shipping on everything Amazon sells.

I agree on Amazon as a first choice, Vitacost for specialty items that I buy and sometimes, I use Wal-Mart online for certain items like agave or almonds. I have not been able to find any other sources that are reasonable.

Iherb.com has a large selection of healthy grocery items plus free shipping for orders over $40.

Look at buythecase.com. I don't know if it would work for you. At one time they had no shipping if you bought 100.$ worth, but it has changed for Alaskans and I do not buy from them now.

Be sure to compare unit costs. I was looking into this at one point and found some bulk pasta for sale on Amazon. It had just one review and the person was so excited about all the money they thought they had saved. She had ordered something like 200+ lbs. The problem........ if you did the math, she had paid about $1.85 / lb. At my local grocery store it's always significantly less than that and with BOGO deals every few weeks I can get it for less than half that.

I'm sure there are times where it's less expensive to order from Amazon, but be sure to compare the cost to what you can get on your regular store runs and don't always assume it's cheaper to buy online.

I've bought from buythecase.com and found some really good prices there. I just prefer Amazon because I get free 2-day shipping and Amazon's customer service is unbeatable.

Walmart delivers groceries, locate the grocery section of their website.

Hi,

Thank you for the replies, I tried by the case, they seemed to me to be the most expensive actually, tried Walmart, but they have such a limited list of deliverable items, I gave up. I will try the others though.
