WE can all agree that we're frugal on this board, but how frugal were you when it came to your wedding? This includes any wedding/engagement rings, invites, wedding planning, etc... I don't need exact numbers but did your wedding put a heavy dent in your frugalness?

My first wedding in 1976 cost me $10 . Went to a judge. Had to wait two hours.... there was a big drug trial going on.......

We're having a small wedding ceremony (got married on paper a few months ago). For everything including the dress (which was expensive about $1500), it looks to be close to $3,000. That's over a year too because we had planned to have our wedding last October but it got delayed. So we got the dress and rings last year. This year is all the expenses for the ceremony which are, including the reception dinner, a little over $1000, probably around $1200.

We "eloped" even though we were living together - went to the local inn where the innkeeper was a JP, 2 employees were witnesses, had dinner there after. So maybe $50? (1981). Later on my dad gave us a party for the relatives. I have 23 cousins and as he said, "I have bought so many wedding presents, YOU are going to get some!"

It was DH's 3rd marriage, my first. Neither of us wanted a big wedding. I am not comfortable being the center of attention. I don't regret it for a moment, it was very romantic.

Not at all. Where I come from most people opt for the economical over the extravagant, and prefer to spend the money on a house, or a nice trip.
Sure, I had a nice dress, and a ring, but not a x carat rock. I didn't spent money on reception - people tend to remember a quiet ceremony and dinner as much as those who have had a big wedding.
We went to City Hall, then had a nice dinner in a restaurant.
Two wedding witness and only immediate family was present, less than 20 people, I think.
Weddings are just not a big deal there.

In 2003, I paid around $5k for a wedding with 120 guests.
Beginning in 2005, and finally final in November 2010, the divorce was around $60k in lawyer fees alone.

We paid a small fee for a courthouse wedding, but had to have a bigger thing later in order to avoid insulting family. Fewer than a hundred people still cost us about 10K, although the parents paid for most of it. We spent less than a 1500 on the rings, though, including engagement, and I got the dress for 500 online (it was 2K in the store), so I thought we did pretty well there.

Maybe $1,500 in the mid 1980's...my parents didn't approve but did chip in $500 as a gift after the fact. I certainly was not consciously trying to be cheap we just didn't have a lot of cash. Frankly, I find crowing about how cheap your wedding was is almost as bad as bragging about how much it cost you!
