My son stood in line for a game system once. Thankfully, the store hired security and made sure everyone stayed in a line. Each individual or group was given a number about an hour before the store opened. People were let into the store in small groups, and he was in the first group. Victory is mine!
There had been an unfortunate incident the year before which made the national news, and this store was not going to allow anything like it to happen there. Best Buy. He made the local news, too.
He said it was a positive experience. People talked to each other and held a place in line when someone left to use a restroom. Quite a few fell asleep--some in cars and some on the ground. Early morning, many went to Dunkin' Donuts and took orders from others in line.
I should have handed out lighters and led the group in song.
We also have extra security in our store for Black Friday and people are given numbers as they arrive. It's all kept pretty calm and organized. The nice thing is that the really huge purchases don't have to come through the front registers and are picked up in the automotive dept..
So far we've not had any bad incidents in our store but they are always on the lookout. Most folks are there for the fun, bargains and socializing with the neighbors. Small town here so lots of folks know one another.
One year I was walking the aisles of the home improvement retailer I worked for shortly after the opening and saw some poor guy looking through the plumbing fittings. I'll bet it took him an hour to get through the line and had to assume that he had water leaking in his house the entire time because why else would you come out at 6:00 am on black Friday to buy something like that.
We did happen to be in Paso Robles (CA wine region) last year on Black Friday, which turned into a happy piece of good luck. Most of the wineries had some sort of discount. We bought a case of very drinkable Sangiovese for $60 at one place.
No, but every year about a week before thanksgiving the small signs go up around Floyd Co for the cow sale. Every year I'm a tiny bit tempted to buy one or even a cow and calf but I never do since I know nothing about raising and caring for them, I just know that I find it enjoyable to see them out in the pastures, especially when the young ones are gamboling about, looking like overgrown puppies.
I have more than enough room for a couple dozen but .......I'm not that crazy yet.
Are you planning to shop online during Black Friday or Cyber Monday
Though I want to save some money buying some Christmas gifts this year, I really don't want to go with crowds crowds and crowds.
Most of the stores now also offer online discounts for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
What do you think of them?
Never gonna shopping at malls, walmart
Maybe doing some online shopping
