So...you would not trust Hunts spaghetti sauce? ( Well within date code in my state)
Nor Bumble Bee canned Tuna?
Nor Libby's canned vegetables? Or Delmonte?
Nor Hamburger helper ( if you eat it?)?
Nor Kraft Mac & Cheese?
There are "off brands" or perhaps DT 'brand', but if the NAME BRAND items are cheaper than Walmart or the grocery store, why NOT Buy them at Dollar tree?
Do you trust Walmart s 'off brand' or maybe'self branded' Great Value or Equate brands???
Jeeze.
I don't care what brand the stuff, but at least where I live if you actually compare the price of dollar store food to a grocery store like Aldi's or Winco you will find that it's usually more expensive. There are exceptions though. I buy capers at dollar tree or 99 cent only because they are about 1/3 the price of most grocery stores, but as far as bread and most canned stuff - I'm not seeing any savings.
The big chains are all within 2 miles of me. That would be convenient if they have anything I buy. I liked Family Dollar for liquid soap, but now I prefer one type of bar soap. I check thrift stores first for dishes, books, etc.
They do have frozen foods, where IF you are creative, you might make a lunch. Frozen asparagus, a few eggs from the half dozen in the refrigerated section, a container of basil, and maybe some ham, could make a nice lunch for $4 if you had a hotplate or microwave.
Compare that to the current cost of a fast food lunch of roughly $8 for sandwich, fries, and sugar drink.
OR... $.14 for a burger roll (they come in packs of 8 for $1), $.10 for mayo (the containers of a few ounces are more than enough), and a buck or less for kippers, sardines, or tuna. That sandwich will cost you $1.25. and you get seconds without spending a buck more than the initial outlay of $3.
I quit buying cards at Hallmark years ago because not only did they get too expensive (I told my daughter "I love you, but I am not spending $6.00 on a card for anybody"), but because they were too sappy, ie I have a sister I didn't grow up with and met as an adult, I didn't want a card that gushed about our growing up together, or being best friends, etc. Same with another relative by marriage, they were not "the best thing that has happened to our family". I discovered cards for .50 at Dollar Tree that said just what I wanted them to say for whoever I was buying for.
Right after I discovered this, I couldn't believe that Hallmark came in and all the "generic" cards were removed and Hallmark's brought in! And, to add insult to injury, were selling their cards, for all occasions, for..........2/$1.00, ie .50 each!
So, I buy all cards at Dollar Tree. I also buy holiday decor, such as window clings, front door hanging things, felt table top decor in the holiday shapes, name brand pet treats (Snausages), craft items, smaller bags of candy and name brand salty snacks, and, at Dollar General, where things are as high as $5.00, sometimes wall hanging items. Found a wood plaque for guest bath that says "You never know what you have until it's gone. Toilet paper, for instance" in colors that matched my decor. It looks great, and is current and fun.
