NO 401k match! She said they stopped that

Must retire at 65.

Again, this is a the busiest store in Northern Ca yet I couldn't find anyone who was older, like mid 60's to 70's Came home and informed my husband that was so odd, I feel like I cannot work there beyond 65. I was right.
At 65, the Pension starts. And it's docked for any amount you earn beyond working 10 hrs a week. Well they require you to work 24+ hrs a week so who would keep working to loose 14 hrs of pay for your labor?

At 65, my pension will be $175 per mo.

Not much but it's better than nothing.

PERFECT hours for sure, good exercise, good health insurance. Probably the best I can do in middle age
That really does sound ideal as far as a work schedule and your pay is really good, too. It's wonderful that you'll be able to earn a pension at 65!

Thanks. I am surprised it's such a good job. It may be slightly better than expected

I was told last night the Spouses can do wellness activities for an extra $1200k per year contribution to their HSA accounts. Not sure this is correct so will hopefully be able to verify it today. So many employees just have no clue and the hiring mgr has already told me things which are untrue. If the employee can earn wellness credits in the form of dollars, I would assume the spouse automatically can too. In case anyone here knows and wants to chime in, this is probably standard in the industry with Health Savings Accounts+ High Deductible Health Plans

Labeling Grocery Store workers as Essential Workers probably helped their case

At least now the pain has toned down enough I can take pain meds. I won't be literally just dropping to the ground by accident. Hubby now understands we need to cycle, my legs need to cycle in a few months when winter subsides. Thickening clumps are forming in my legs which must be muscle. I am going to look weird if I don't gain muscle all over my legs equally so we must cycle 3 days a week for at least one hour gaining a few thousand elevation up the hill. Vanity is a strong motivator. He realizes this is probably going to work out so is looking forward to working a little less so we can cycle. Much more supportive now that it's been 3.5 weeks and my legs are over the hump. I can do it

.

As for lunch, do you not have a locker? Take something from home nd save the cost of the deli sandwich.

I've been a personal shopper before and the store that hired me had me scheduled for 32+ hour work weeks which included some weekends, evenings and the expectation that I work on holidays. And I was only PT so I didn't get leave nor did I get a set schedule. That job was sort of brutal on my 55+ year old body - I could have done it with real PT hours but those 9 hour shifts were killer. Another PT job that I've had was so sporadic with the hours and also wanted me working on the holidays.

It was too much. The schedule you've worked out along with all of those benefits is amazing. If I could get a regular 20 hours a week working PT during day hours I would absolutely do it.

So hang on to that job. It sounds awesome!

I am not sure about the lockers yet, I'll inquire. Mac & cheese was only $3.50 yesterday. Not very healthy but for this week, it will suffice.
This weekend during days off I'll start looking into inexpensive easy meals to make at home.

Wow! 8-9 hr shifts would do me in! Did you work long enough to get a pension? I know it wouldn't be much after 5 yrs, maybe 80-$90 or so is my guess.

You did really well for your age running around like that. Our personal shoppers are all in their 20's-30's from what I've seen. Plenty of my co-workers experience what you did, being forced into erratic inconsistent schedules. I don't understand why they cannot schedule people within their availability, a regular set shift, or if not, hire people for those shifts. I was told scheduling is predicated by how busy the store is but you cannot do that to people. Sometimes it's slow at any business but the owners still pay their employees.

They were desperate to hire someone when I came in. It was obvious. Pretty much all shifts were open. They are still hiring but do fire people way too often because they just don't like them. Even hard workers get the ax
