Well, the heat and lack of rain has made my yard look horrible. I don't have a well and watering is expensive. I watered it a time or two but the heat and lack of rain has taken a toll I am afraid. I am just hoping it will bounce back once the rain comes. Supposed to rain tonight.

I didn't have to cut the grass for two weeks but we got about an inch of rain this morning. I'll probably have to cut the weeds now next week. I can't see wasting water on grass unless you have a private well and a drought isn't serious. I did water the gardens and rhododendron and hedges, though.

Same conditions here, we got some rain last night. I've had my hands full keeping the garden green (I don't want to see the water bill) but we've left the grass. I'm hoping everyone is right when they say that fescue goes dormant in hot/dry conditions and will revive with rain and cooler temps. We have a lovely mix of pasture "grass", fescue and Bermuda so there is some green and some brown.

As it hardly rains here in the SoCal, I just water it enough to keep it a shade of green. Of all the things growing, I feel that the grass is the biggest waste. It doesn't add to the dinner table (fruits, vegetables), nor does it add that much beauty (flowers). Nope - it just adds more work, because I'm the one who has to cut it when it gets too long!

Grass is a waste... the way I see it the only thing worth tending and watering is something that you can harvest for food or other use. I turned off my sprinklers a while back and let it all go brown. Eventually I will get ground cover that is more inline with the area I live (San Diego) but for now it can just sit there browning.

My neighbors water their fescue about 2 or 3 times a week and it doesn't look any better than mine which I have watered only twice in the whole summer. It just is a cool weather grass and no amount of constant watering is going to change that.

My grass is really green even though it has been hot but it also has been rainy a lot... so in all it balances each other out... I was going to install a sprinkler system but now, I don't think so... the weather is my sprinkler system...

Our lawn is brown too and it hasn't been mowed in 3 weeks because it's not growing.

We got a little less than 3/4 inch of rain so far so hopefully it will green up a little. I am like a lot of you guys though and am not gonna waste my money on keeping the grass green. The flowers and such I will water when they appear to really need it as they are a definite investment of time and money.

Gosh I thought I was the only one. I am considering getting a private well just for watering the grass or installing a 2nd meter.

Can you get a well in city limits subdivision just for watering the lawn? DH said the only outward signs of a well is one of those underground sprinkler system green plastic cover that is installed into the surface of the ground. DH said we would get another one for a well.

I just want my grass to look a little green and now like dried up straw.
