First killing frost. I can't remember a first killing frost so late in October.

Four inches of snow this morning in Interior Alaska, putting the total to about 8 inches so far this year. Actually a little late, normally we've already got a foot or more of snow and it would already be starting to get too cold to snow by now. The fact that we're still hovering up around freezing is rare this late in October. Our first true killing frost was back in early September, but we did get a couple of hard frosts at the end of July that messed up everyone's gardens.

It sure seems like Falls are getting a LOT warmer than they used to be and starting later. Winter also seems to be ending sooner as well. 2010 is predicted to be one of the warmest years globally on record as well.

Light freeze predicted tonight for southern Indiana (Louisville metro).

Outlying rural areas have had a few frosts, but urban areas have not.

No killing frost in the Syracuse, NY area yet.

I'll need to say goodbye to the figs, cannas, and musa basjoo plants for another 6 months since a freeze warning is in effect for tonight.

Amazingly no killing frost, yet, in spite of being on a edge of the Smoky Mountains and having a touch of white on the grass twice. Even the begonias looked good today, they've become small shrubs! This weekend will most likely be the end though.... predicted lows around the 30 degree mark. The big storm last week did bring down a lot of leaves and damaged a few of the annuals that are pretty much done anyway. I'm assuming I'll be out in the garden doing fall cleanup next week.

On Saturday morning, October 30, 2010, I woke up to about an inch of snow at my house. It's the first snow for the season. Around here, it's not unusual to have either snow or very cold weather on or around Halloween. This year is no exception.
