Em---You can be as wordy as you like! I've enjoyed your wordiness and the knowledge you share. If anything was going to be invasive in the country it surely would be here in N.C. and my previous Georgia garden. Is it possible the Sweet Autumn Clematis sold in nurseries is different than the invasive variety some have encountered?
Wow, thanks, did not realize clematis was invasive anywhre.
For me, ANY flower that grows amid my marauding herds of deer is a Good Thing, as Martha Stewart would say.
(My deer eat most deer-resistant plants recommended by nurseries.)
You're welcome! If I could, I'd ship you a some in pots! They pull up very easily. I've never known the names of these as being Sweet Autumn Clematis.....we just know them as weeds that choke out everything. It is listed as an invasive plant in Delaware, if it is what the experts here refer to it as.
Oooh, I think I need one of these vines.. If it grows that relentlessly, perhaps I won't kill it ~ I'm one of those who have difficulty in successfully growing anything...
Prettiest weed ever, then. Smells great too. Compared with the Japanese grass that is taking over my property, or the other nasty looking weeds that infest my woods, I'd take the autumn clematis any day. Mine, from White Flower, is the virginiana version, I believe.
Our "pretty clematis" vines are gone, thanks to my husband and I pulling it all down from our pine trees with rakes. I'm sure the trees are thanking us. Of course, I'm sneezing my head off from all that sickening sweet aroma. I see my neighbors are doing the same in their yard.
