Why don't you just enjoy the Robin. You should feel honored it chose your steps.

Leave the darn bird alone. It's probably pregnant....chances of a bird being overweight at this time of year is pretty small. All you people advocating shooting the bird are probably the same ones who advocate shooting stray cats because they decimate the bird population.

The bird has chosen your porch for a resting place because it feels comfortable there for some reason. If its presence bothers you so much, hang a wind chime and that will probably discourage it from resting there.

Here, for about $20 at Home Depot or Lowes, you can buy deer fencing: Easy Gardener 7 ft. x 100 ft. DeerBlock Protective Mesh-6050 at The Home Depot. It is almost invisible from the road and can easily be cut with scissors or a sharp box cutter knife. All you have to do is fence in the area that you do not want the bird to perch on. We do this to our picture windows during the robin mating season - we don't like to see them knock themselves out on the window and it saves all the bird poop on the sills. You can simply attach it to the edge of the shingles with clothes pins or use a staple gun. It is only temporary till they move on and then you can take it down until the following year. If you fence off a human traveled area; you might want to tread some yellow ribbon in the mesh - just so you don't tangle humans!

In the past i have used fake owls or snakes to discourage birds. Maybe something shinier than soap scum (aluminum foil) or something that rattles? Wind chime hung low?

Not sure why this discussion has to be so polarized. She didn't express any desire to kill the bird or chastise it for pooping. She just wants it to poop somewhere else. Sheesh!

In mating season none of those methods work - not even scarecrows. These little birdbrains can easily get the upper hand on super intelligent humans or they are just too dumb to care!
