I got a Toro lawn mower from Lowes with a Briggs and Stratton engine. Got the one with mulching power and love it. Well, loved it when I was using it to cut my lawn. Ended up hiring this mexican guy who was doing lot of my neighbors yards to do my yard now. He uses all Honda equipment.

We do not like Briggs and Stratton engines. After the last two quit on us, we refuse to buy another.

I'll buy nothing but a Briggs & Stratton.
It's the best and most reliable of all mower engines.

Set them up right and do the maintenance... they'll last for decades.

When you get to the riding mowers there are more options
(like Kawasaki and Kohler) but on a per dollar basis they aren't better choices.

We like the Kohler!! Just not had much luck with the Briggs. Maintenance is done on a regular basis.

The quality of various brands varies with the model. Some Briggs are junk, Some Kohlersare junk. Some Hondas are Junk. Some of each are great. For the most part there is really no difference.

Minimize features (things that will only break after a few years).

Use non-ethynol gas or run stabil through before putting it away forthe season (if you have seasons).

Change the oil.

Keep the filters clean.

If you do that your mower should outlast you.

not sure how much property you own but i bought a zero turn cub cadet commercial lawn mower as it has a more rigid body and made for commercial use and is really the easiest to you .Commercial grade can stand up to abuse .I have 3 acres on a hill and it is well balanced for the hillside mowing
