I live in FL and my azalea were blooming in February here. I plan on planting a ring of them under our live oak which is acidic and will shade them from the harsh summer sun. I had azaleas that were beautiful in NY for many years until roots from a nearby maple tree invaded their soil. That was sad and took me a couple of years to realize that they weren't doing much anymore.
We moved here from NY, snowbirding at first and finally made the cut and are staying here year round. The summer here is like winter there in many ways and I'm finally catching on. Vegetable gardening in my part of SWFL starts in September and goes to December and begins again in February until it gets too hot around late May/early June.
Other things go year round. My son gave me frangipani/plumeria cuttings this morning. I'll let them dry out for a few days and then plant them. I will miss my northern plants that need those freeze cycles, like lilac, but there are other plants to take their place. A springtime vase of lilacs in the house is a wonderful thing though.
