I have been interested in growing cold hardy palms, bananas, and citrus trees in the Atlanta Georgia area for the past 30 years.
Over the years I have helped hundreds of people to transform their yards into tropical-like paradise.
My Banana trees were used to create the Cobra Kai realistic jungle scenes. (Cobra Kai is the sequel to The Karate Kid on youtube)
I am now working with the Ventecohol banana that is supposed to produce edible bananas in one Georgia season. I will keep you posted on my progress and if it really works as some claim!
Also, that's a really nice thing to do! Although Atlanta gets cold snaps, they're no more severe than in Memphis or Virginia Beach, and winters are warmer on average than the other two. So while no California Fan Palms despite somewhat warm winters, Cabbage Palmettos should do even better than they would in Memphis or Virginia Beach. And of course Needle Palms and Dwarf Palmettos are no brainers, they'll fully thrive where I am in Middle Tennessee, let alone the Deep South!
