I would wait at least another year. You didn't prune them late in the spring did you? I prune mine either very early or after they bloom. It is normal for the seedlings to be differant than the parent plant. Apparently the roots that were left were of 2 separate plants, probably one was a seedling.

So there's a chance that they will still bloom? They are about 3 feet tall now, and full of promise, but not producing. I haven't pruned them at all.

Oh yes, it is not uncommon for them to take longer than 3 years to bloom.

Mine are usually a lot taller than 3 feet when they first bloom.

The weird thing is that when we renovated our house, the contractors dug up and disposed of the Rose of Sharon bush. Somehow, the roots remained in the soil in two separate places, and the colors of the flowers of one are pink with a reddish center, and the other is a purple with a reddish center. Now, there are all these babies, but they don't have any flowers (except for one small twig). Should I get out the pitchfork and dispose of them, or is there a way to make them bloom? Thanks. My Rose of Sharon do not flower until a bit later...I don't have a single bud yet...

Hi skbs,

There is one reseeded twig that has some small buds, but they are not on the very end of the branches. The others look like they are continuing to just form leaves, but I'll keep checking.
