It has been a while since I've had them buzzing near me and I have lived in Northern VA my entire adult life. No brood has been as strong as the wicked ones in the 1980's. I lived in Manassas 17 years ago and Vienna before that. I am in Lakeridge now and suspect I am going to dodge them again. Not every area will get them. What a pain if you do live where they swarm. Get ready for clicking dog teeth, lol. Even they get ticked off by them.
While it’s fun to get worked up about these guys there are very few locations they are expected. In NC for example only three counties far to the east are probable sites.

I grew up Northern Va and remember the last two times they came out. I also thought we wouldn't see them here in Central NC, but my wife has seen some cicada larvae in our back yard over the last week or so. Maybe we will get some? Hopefully not too bad.
