Oh durn it and a double good grief... that looks so familiar, but can't place it...
Reminds me of a type of a Magnolia

Looks like a variety of 'saucer magnolia'.

Thanks for the links but I didn't find anything like it there. It's not a saucer magnolia. The closeup picture is deceptive... the flowers are small and are in clusters. The tree is pretty big/tall. For perspective, that's a crape myrtle in front of it in my yard.

I did a google search and I think it is a Calodendrum capense. Look it up and see if that is it.
