I have had a bird feeder on the ledge of my 3rd story apartment window for over six months now, but I have yet to attract any birds. Is the 3rd story just too high for birds to look for food in the city? Is there anything I can do to let the birds know the feeder is there? My neighbors have bird feeders on the ground and they attract birds year round. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sometime ago, I read that bird feeders have to be less than 8 feet tall for the birds to consider it. I have a water fountain and food at about 5 feet high, and now I have too many birds.............. Good luck.

Put a box of sand next to it. Birds need "grit" to process their food. They usually get it from the ground and perhaps they'll come for the combination....

Who knows?

Find out what food the ground floor neighbors are putting out. Perhaps it's different than what you are using.
