Is it a hen chicken, or a rooster? due to the use of "he poops alot".....
If the chicken is a rooster, you also gain an alarm clock...
True. Growing up mom would let her chi chickens out. Well the rooster would start to crow at all hours of the day or night. The snooze button on that alarm clock consisted of a sling shot and a ball bearing. The best was when you could hit him mid crow too.
Eventually he became coyote bait.
If its a hen, build a nest box and you can have your very own egg plant, that is not a vegetable.
I am a poultry owner, and sounds like she needs a real home. Chickens need to be part of a flock, even if it's a human one. They don't do well alone ,at all. I would seriously go to this website, BackYardChickens Forum
& explain your story. I am certain you will find her a good home in no time! Let me know if you want/need help w/ the BYC (Backyard Chickens) website,it's pretty simple to regiater & post there.Tons of friendly chicken lovers!
If not,it's only a matter of time until a dog, raccoon,or even an owl or hawk makes her a meal. What color is she? I am assuming it's a she or you'd certainly have heard crowing by now. Please let us know what happens to the poor, lonely thing!
Well, by in large, the chicken will eat grasses but will leave crop stuffs alone, except, they are great for getting rid of japanese beetles on crop plants and roses, they are much more interested in eating insects than plant life.
Don't know how it is where you live but in our neck of the woods after two or three attempts of trying to solve the problem with a neighbor and livestock and nothing gets resolved, our next meal would be chicken and dumplings.
Cayenne Pepper and water mixed together and sprayed on the leaves works. Are you sure the chicken is eating the leaves, or bugs? We let our ducks and chickens free range our garden until the vegetables start growing. They eat a lot of bugs. We have a rabbit problem. Anyone go a recipe for rabbit stew?
One other thought. If the neighbor has a high fence that the chicken flies over, the next time the chicken comes over, clip his wings. You can cut the ends of the feathers on the wings ( don't hit the Quill) and the bird will not be able to get any lift until the feathers grow back
