Bumper crop of acorns in NC also, street is filled with them, constantly hear them falling. Saw a black bear sitting in a driveway just munching down on all he could eat the other day.
I've been grazed by a few walking the dogs. One dog got beaned and looked at me accusingly. Talking to a neighbor while walking the dogs the other day, and a walnut fell right between us. That would hurt as including the husk they are about the size of a tennis ball, but a lot heavier, and there is also a bumper crop of those this year.
Glad to see it, wild life has plenty to eat, and the bears haven't hit my trash since they can find plenty to eat.
Last year, my oak in the driveway dropped a ton of acorns. Big ones, ripe ones. Almost 110% of them germinated. This year, hardly a one. It's okay. I'm still pulling oak seedlings out of my flowerbeds.
My neighbor has an oak tree and I've never seen it dropping so many acorns. Out in the street he had has car park under it and when I was walking the dog I kept hearing a thump thump thump as acorns dropped on it. Of course when I mowed the lawn the acorns from his other tree kept banging around and I thought I was picking up stones in the grass. They are everywhere. Its supposed to be a sign of a coming cold winter.
lol i see an article of one extreme or the other every year. and each time it is like they have never seen such a sight before in their life. i think ppl just forget to quickly.

Tell me about it! I am amazed at all the acorns, hickory nuts and black walnuts I've seen on the ground. I would be scared to be under a black walnut tree this time of year. Those things could seriously hurt you, lol.
Just the other day I was out picking up nuts under an old large shagbark hickory tree. In my 10-15 mins. there picking up nuts for myself I probably heard and saw about 50 nuts fall to the ground. Pretty neat to see the husks "explode" as they hit the ground. There were literally hundreds if not a thousand nuts under that tree and still many up IN the tree...
Here in central NH, I am noticing a ton of pine cones on the trees this year and many have already fallen to the ground. I don't see as many acorns compared to last year.
