I have a dwarf lime tree that I keep indoors during the winter (I am in zone 7a) and now it is flowering. This is suppose be a "self-pollinating" variety but I am curious as to how that works? A friend suggested that I use a cotton swab to rub the buds to "help" it pollinate since there are no bees in the winter time and indoors. Do I need to offer a helping hand on this? Or does the tree bear fruits without "help"?

Thanks.

Unless you have bees indoors, you will need to pollinate it by hand. A q-tip or a paint brush works well. Just make sure you have pollen that's ready. It should be yellow to white and look like a fine powder.
