OK if you are a taxonomy freak there is a slight difference between the original picture from the Catskills and the second from an English garden site. The first plant would be classified as Oaxlis montana (Raf.). The second is a picture of Oaxlis acetosella as stated. The difference is very slight and the two are used a synonyms for each other. The montana is the so-called American variety and the acetosella is old world Eurasian. Now to get really taxonomy crazy there is still ongoing study to drill down further separation between the two common sorrel varieties even though the distinction was made back in the late 1800's
Who gets paid for this info? LOL
I wonder if any 2009 stimulus money went for any current study?
