We are planning to move to New York City. The only thing I will miss from where I now am is my yard.
We now have the possible opportunity for an apartment/coop in the Upper East Side of the City 4 - 5 blocks away from Central Park.
It will include a roof garden about 6 or 7 stories up.
We are retired and look forward to this possibility.
My question: will we be able to attract any sort of birds up that high? I imagine it can get quite windy up there. We like blackbirds and crows, but hear there is some sort of large predator bird nesting in a building near the park which preys on smaller animals. We would hate to attract a small bird only to provide lunch for a falcon or hawk.
Are there any tips for a roof garden that we should know about? We plan one or two small raised beds and a good number of pots.
