I've noticed and seen it written before that many people who claim a lot of British ancestry have more south asian admixture showing up on dna tests than other Europeans. Obviously some of this can be attributed to the colonization if India, but what about those who's ancestors were in America before then?

I wouldn't say this is just something that happens in the British. I'm sure you will find it in other European populations. You can read a bit about it in this blog. All populations have different proportions of ancestry. They even find an AmerIndian component in a lot of Northern Europeans. All these admixture events are quite ancient.

I haven't heard about this before of Brits having more Southeast Asian DNA than do other Europeans as maybe it's related to the Opium Wars dating back to the 1800's when the British empire was trying to colonize China. That being said looking at my 23andme ''Standard'' percentages show's 99.7% European, 0.2% Unassigned and colored in orange is East Asian 0.1% with two members in China (world map icon) showing as a fourth cousin according to 23andme.

This is a map of South West Asian admixture in Europeans. I can find anything for South Asian admixture.

I can't find anything about this. Do you have a source?

He mentioned it in a reply to a question asked in the comments section of the latest Eutest blog. He specifically says:

The South Central Asian results can also probably be explained by your British ancestry. I have no idea why, but the British often show higher South Central Asian admixture than other Europeans. This happens in many supervised and unsupervised ADMIXTURE tests.

The reason it caught my eye is because I am 100% pre colonial white American with about 50% coming from Britain and I consistently show 3% south asian, which is a little bit higher than most of a similar ancestry.

Thanks. That's very interesting.

My safe assumption concerning my South Asian DNA is that it arrived via Britain and is due to colonization.

However, I do wonder how much of this is more related to Out of Africa, into Asia, and on to the rest of the world? I haven't spent a lot of time tracing the movement on paternal lines but I think OP would find the journey out of Africa on maternal lines interesting. The shared DNA could be a very old holdover from ancient migration patterns.

Probably because it's not an accurate statement?
