Hey everybody,I'm a Euromutt and I ordered 23andme.Does 23andme and other genetic testing always give undefined/unknown/non-specific results to everybody?Ive been looking around for an answer but I cant really seem to find it.Thanks.
Not to everyone, and it may vary in the amount from a tiny "unspecified" to a rather substantial percentage. As their data base grows, there should be less and less of that. Remember, this whole science is just developing. And, what is unspecified this month may show up with a more definitive answer next month or the month after.
My husband's came back with .4 "unassigned" which is a pretty low figure in my opinion. He's 98.2 percent European, with the vast majority of that coming from the Scandinavian/North Sea countries. Cool.
The wild card was the 1.1 percent subSaharan African! That was a surprise.
wow that's kool Kathyrn.That is a surprise lol.Thank you.
I'm definitely the "darker" of the two of us, and due to my wild, coarse, thick dark hair, dark eyes and rather rounded (vs angular) facial features, I've often been the butt of "who snuck into the woodpile" jokes. In fact, in high school, one of my friends gave me some Afro Sheen for a gag gift! LOL
It would be hilarious if we found out that HE'S the one with African blood and not me! I can't wait to get my results back - till then I have to be really careful about how much I rib him about stuff (for instance, he's 2.8 percent Neanderthal which is slightly higher than average), because I don't yet know what my results are.
This is not going to stop me from calling him an African from time to time though. Or reminding him that he can legitimately call himself and African American.
I have 2.7% unassigned. On a different page it says 2.9% neanderthal. Now sure how that fits in with the unassigned. My dad made fun of the 2.9% neanderthal until I pointed out that my mom was only 2.7%. So that meant that he was the contributor to the higher than normal percentage. He is now getting his own test so we shall soon see what his percentage is.
