I have alot of Italian ancestry that I want to track down and I am wondering what good resources for that might be. I know that Ancestry.com claims access to some Italian records. I know that overall it is a good site, but can anyone with experience tell me if specifically it is good for tracking down Italian records? Are there any other sites that would be good to utilize? I know that initially my ancestors came from Napoli. Thanks for any input!
All sites are hit or miss for Italy, just like US records. For my line from Abruzzo, I got lucky in that the LDS site at https://www.familysearch.org/search had quite a bit of "free" birth and marriage records that were/are not available on Ancestry.com
Home | Ancestors - Italian Archives for Genealogical Research. It's not complete but if you have ancestry in any of the areas they have added, it should be very useful.
Count me in as far as vouching for how valuable familysearch.org is for Italian research. There are also some awesome Italian genealogy groups on Facebook, some even specific to the region you are researching in. I also highly recommend this book:
I agree familysearch.org is an awesome starting point and they have records that aren't indexed yet but still searchable. Definitely look for those. Research is tedious no matter what site you use. Look for alternate spellings and dates. Be creative, but look for confirmation of your findings as well. You can also start with the local library where your ancestors lived and see what genealogical records they may have.
