There's a young gal selling "whatever" on TV these days whose name is Chinese (not sure about the spelling.) She pronounces it "Shin -eese." She's obviously not ethnically Chinese.

Hi, Lotta and Mathias are very common names in Sweden. I knew several Lotta's and Mathias growing up

My sister-in-law works at the food stamp place. A woman came in to apply for food stamps. Her daughters name was Orangejello. Pronounced Or-an'-gee-low. I swear this is true.

My mother's family is littered with bad first names. Some are just horrible, but do make the hunt easier.

There was Almiron, who seems to have been named for a sister named Almira, who died before he was born.

There was Amasa, who was named for a cousin, more Cyruses that you'd want (3 generations in one family). 2 Ebeneezers, a Phineas (No one could seem to spell it right, it usually shows in records as Finis), a Marmaduke, and an Orange.

Then for women there were Beulah, Tressa, & Alwilda. I think that Hortentia's parents intended to name her Hortencia. . .

On my husbands side there were Ludovina, Cirilia, Conception, for women and Elfago, Macedonio and Baltazar. Hispanic names in the 1800's all the names were sorta odd to me. My family, I think my aunt had the oddest name because it was so long: Lucille Sylvia Jo Miralda--four names for her first name.

I thought the name ABCD was cool.

One source says it's a varient of the Old German "Ada" and means "noble" and the other says it's Hebrew and means "God ornament":

I saw an unusual first name on a promotion for a crime show ( reality)

The show was hosted by a person named Aphrodite Jones.
Her name was pronounced--afro-die-tee

Never heard that name before ( white woman, about 40 years old)

Never heard it at all or just as a modern name? Aphrodite was the Greek goddess of love, mother of Eros aka Cupid to the Romans. It's not common as a modern name, that's for sure, but I'm surprised if you've never heard it at all.
