I was at the LDS library in Bellevue, WA about twenty years ago looking at a book of old newspaper reports from early 17th Century Connecticut. I was just browsing while my mom was doing some research.
There was a note about a man from Saybrook disappearing in a squall at the mouth of the Connecticut River. The article said that he was last seen in his small boat, which was being steered by his dog that he had trained to take the tiller.

Did you forget about one of the greatest actors of all time? Jack Lemmon.....from Mass. and has 2 living children.
My wife has been doing some geneology work on an old cemetery near us. The death certificate for one man, from 1919 listed cause of death,"Had no doctor. Just fell dead." How's that for direct? lol
