I currently live in Savannah, GA and I'm in discussions with a employer in Atlanta.

My main question is this... How do you deal with moving a long way, but yet stay in the same state? Should I treat it as a out of state move?

I'm currently single and don't have a lot of items to move as this would be my first time on my own. I also have $7,500 in savings in case anything goes wrong.

Any experiences?

Sorry, but 250 miles might seem like a "long way" to you, but in the moving business it is nothing. Think of it as a cross-town move with a 4 hour drive.

If you really don't have much to move other than personal items (clothes, computers, TV etc), then a U-Haul trailer would probably be enough, assuming you have an adequate vehicle to pull one.

Georgia regulates intrastate moves through the Dept. of Public Safety if you're planning on using one of the licensed household goods movers that operate in the state using a Max Rate tariff.
Georgia Department of Public Safety - MCCD Regulations Compliance

If you're planning to rent a truck or use one the mobile portable container options, be sure to compare the daily rental, mileage, and equipment repositioning rates against licensed carriers.
