I’m selling off some old DVDs before the next move. I have good boxes
to ship 1 and good boxes to ship a ton (like 20+), but for the sweet spot of around 8 to 20 I’m having a little trouble. Does anyone have any suggestions for boxes that would be good to ship between 8 to 20 DVDs without the box costing a bunch. Ideally I’d like to spend $1 or less per box.

Domestic. Flat rate. Box with prepaid postage.

There are several options.

You can pick up flat rate boxes for free, but you'll be obligated to pay the flat rate even if the final box weight would cost less to ship. Call some local businesses (pharmacies, hardware stores, package/liquor stores, mom-pop grocery stores often have a variety) and ask them what day they dispose of their freight boxes. Non-big box chains seem a bit more reliable sources. Show up a day or two before and get some for free. Take a DVD with you to get boxes of appropriate dimensions. You can probably also get packing materials free too to fill up any unused space in the boxes.

I had regular semi-annual contract project at work, running on 10 years, wherein the final product required me to ship out two packages of CDs, 10 CDs per package. One went to the client for quality checking and the other went to another contractor for mass duplication once the client approved the batch.

Since you're selling what I assume are movie DVDs, the purchaser might want you to include them in their jewel cases. But I found that using paper CD/DVD envelope sleeves were more safe. The actual disks are pretty tough, but the plastic used in jewel cases are both cheap and easily breakable.

I used the FedEx Overnight Box that's about 1 inch by 9 inches by 12 inches; it's perfect for shipping CDs and DVDs. These boxes are durable, water resistant, and self-sealing. They are free if you ship via FedEx, but you might be able to either purchase or "obtain" a few of these boxes at a FedEx outlet. Look around your UPS outlet as well, they might have something comparable.
