For all of those who have made the move to Charlotte-- when did you file your change of address? I will be closing on my house the 22nd and don't want to get mail there prior to that date. I did pick up a change of address card from the post office already.

Also-- were there places you forgot to tell your new address? I've already contacted my credit card companies, and will do my cell phone when the bill arrives in a few days. Any weird places I would forget to tell?

Thanks in advance!

A bit off track, but what part of Upstate NY are you leaving?

A lot of companies are going to find you no matter what you do. I didn't tell some places I'd done sporadic business with as I wasn't interested in them anymore, but I still get their mailings.

You would need to send your current utility companies as well as phone, cable companies, banks your forwarding address as you will have off-cycle/closing out bills that need to be paid. If those bills get lost and don't get paid, it can affect your credit. Make sure you also update your e-mail contact list with an estimated end-date of your e-mail address if it is tied to your ISP (not Yahoo, or MSN (Hotmail) or Google (gmail)). If you get a new e-mail address, you need to update your profiles on all sites you regularly use as well (e.g. eBay, Overstock, etc.).

Other change of address needed for statements - 401K, stocks, insurance bills including life or accident or business insurance if applicable (on that note, you would have to tell your insurance company that you are moving), health insurance companies (if there are outstanding bills), medical and dental providers, your children's old school, subscriptions, organizations that send you newsletters you want forwarded.

Periodicals(magazines) are forwarded for 60 days(minimum).
First-class mail is forwarded for 365 days.
