This is not new at all. Atlanta is full of AAs from Chicago, Detroit, that have moved there and achieved the American dream.
Atlanta is not the only city that has attracted AA's from the Northeast, Midwest, and West Coast as DC, Baltimore, and Miami have attracted AA's from other regions of the US along with attracting Africans, West Indians, and Latins just as much as Atlanta.........

DC and Baltimore are also among the "New Southern Cities" too that are experiencing a Major Surge in African American and Hispanic Population Growth...........

Recent Black immigrants are holding it down in NYC,but its not just Southern blacks with Southern roots moving down South. In fact more Africans are moving at a much higher than ever rate than before to Atlanta and Houston. The more established Caribbeans in NYC are also amongst those leaving. We are talking at least 2 generations.
A lot of Black Immigrants from the Caribbean, Northeast Africa(Ethiopia and Morocco), Dominicans, and West Africans(Ghana, Nigeria, etc.) are moving to the Greater Baltimore-Washington area.........

Well like most immigrant populations, these traditional spots like D.C. always will.I hate to say this but Baltimore is experiencing that growth mainly because of D.C.Baltimore offers a cheaper place to live but if money was not an object,I don't think it would be the case. Also we can go back to the same old arguments when mentioning the geographic positioning of D.C. and Baltimore(hey are technically Southern).

I find it peculiar how the Baltimore area supposedly added over 70,000 African Americans the last decade (according to that chart) but the census claims the city's population declined by 30,000 people during that same time period So am I supposed to believe all those African Americans settled in Baltimore's suburbs

That argument can be best said about Greater Atlanta because if Money was not an Object then most of the People that chose to move to Georgia would have moved to Central and South Florida since Florida has more Urban(New York, LA, and Chicago) like Resources unlike Atlanta which is mostly still traditionally Good Ol' Boy Southern with limited Diversity(International).......
