What MSA's around the country will add counties into their MSA during this 2010 census? I have heard D.C. will add St. Mary's county Maryland which has about 105,000 residents now. I'm sure plenty of other MSA's around the country will add counties that will give their MSA a nice population boost. If Miami doesn't add any land, D.C. will move up to the number 7 MSA by population in the country. Any predictions?

Kansas City should add Douglas County. It's closer to KC than several counties already in the MSA. It would push KC's population to over 2.2 million.

Here is what I get for DC and Baltimore with the 2010 census numbers:

DC MSA 5,570,862
Balt MSA 2,710,489

DC/Balt CMSA 8,673,671

It amazes me how small certain parts of Maryland are population-wise (coming from my NJ perspective where even rural Salem County has something like 66000 people). But the map the Census just released for MD showed strong growth for all of Southern Maryland, I would not be surprised to see St. Mary's County added at all.

It wasn't added in the numbers released yesterday.

Hmm, do you have a link for that? I didn't see any info on MSAs, only population statistics for each county for the states released so far. As for other metros though, I think Philly might/should gain a few counties. And the gap between Philly and NYC in Central Jersey is pretty much filled at this point so I could possibly see a NYC-Philly CSA happening.

It took a couple of years after the 2000 Census data were released before the "analysis" was completed and MSA definitions were changed. I think any additions/subtractions to MSA bounds as a result of 2010 Census data are still a ways off.

Not gonna happen, mainly because it will trigger mass suicides among C-D haters who can't handle some stupid numbers on paper.

Well the folks in PA have a plan on taking Trenton (and Mercer County) back to the Philly MSA

This is the link for the NY and Philly CSA - it only missed by .2% in the 2000 census
