Yes it walks over Texas too.

Tourism or anything similar to that like any type of attractions are not really at the top of priorities in Texas for some reason. They have many of them but outside of the Alamo and maybe the riverwalk, tourism in the state is non-existant. That said, Texas beaches from Corpus to the border has alot of potential and SPI is now discovering that potential.

But the one thing that hurts Texas beaches is that it's hard to get to if you want a quick day trip. The only expressway down there is I-37 and that only takes you to Corpus and only runs from San Antonio to Corpus Christi. US 59 is ok but it turns into a 2 lane road south of Victoria. The new I-69 will help though.

Yeah their known as the "Emerald Coast" nowadays & yes it is very, very beautiful water & sand. Nothing like we have here in Texas with mud packed brown sandy beaches, massive amounts of seaweed to contend with, & light brown to dark bluish green waters.

I fell in love with Panama City. Its too bad the Florida economy sucks so bad & is full of retirees otherwise I might consider moving there. Great place to Spring Break & vacation in the Summer though & surprisingly not all that far from Texas...only a 10 hour drive from where I'm at. The same exact distance as if I were to go to South Padre.

Spade, have you forgotten I-45 goes to Galveston, not a far one day trip for 6 million people. I think Texas does need to heavily market their beaches.

Yeah but people don't like the water off of Galveston since it's mostly every other color but blue. Galveston could be something very different though. Like the town itself could be the spot instead of the beach.

Aren't the beaches around Jamaica Beach better than the eastern side of the island? I haven't really been that far into Galveston.

Why is it limited only to Florida panhandle and not the entire Gulf coast of Florida?

That's known as the Emerald Coast, most people don't relate it to the Gulf Coast.

The Emerald Coast is the panhandle. At least that's how it's advertised in Pensacola and the Destin/Ft. Walton area.

I lived in Louisiana for 8 months and during that time made friends with lots of locals. None of them would ever consider going to a Louisiana beach. That's saying something!
