It depends on what one is looking for. 25-35 may be optimal but who knows really - An argument could also be made that older could be better with more disposable income - realy depends on what one is looking for.

I've always enjoyed big cities and have lived in them consistently since college. Most of our friends with kids live (or lived) in the suburbs for better schools, which I understand. That said, when we would meet (in town), many of them expressed envy at what we have at our disposal. There is also a common phenomenon that many of these folks move back to the city once they have paid for their children's college education.

I recently retired. Rather than go some Florida beach, we left Houston and bought a condo in Center City Philly. Lots of folks like that here, together with the younger folks, couples without kids a a few families. A great environment. And as the above poster suggested, we have more money to enjoy the city now than when we were struggling right out of college. In any event, I enjoyed it at any age.

Just like I have a hard time considering life anywhere but the city, there are people who hate cities and will never live anywhere but the suburbs, small towns, country, mountains, beach, lake, etc. (pick one). As one poster said, it depends on the person.
