I was a sophomore in high school. Pretty sure I was in English class at the time. I left school early that day. I don't remember much else. It was all so shocking.

Gosh, I can't believe it has been 13 years.

There wasn't a cloud in the sky in the Northeast.

I was in Boston, wife was in Pittsburgh. I first heard mention on the radio of the 1st building being hit. The 2nd was hit as I was walking from my car to the office. We basically stopped working and gathered around the TV. I started getting worried as the reports of a 4th hijacked plane en route to Pittsburgh started coming in. My wife was working for a large financial services company in one of Pittsburgh's tallest buildings.

I remember driving the 11 hours from Boston to Pittsburgh the next day, listening to reports about Punjabs (not Muslims) being insulted and sometimes beaten by ignoramuses who couldn't tell a turban from a dish towel.

I was in 5th grade. My parents came and got me and we went down to the Bronx to make sure my family was alright. We thought the whole city was gonna get bombed.

I was in the Mountain time zone, at home, irregularly watching the news. I didn't normally watch it, but that morning I decided to and about 30 min in, it was interrupted for breaking news. I saw the second plane hit live.

I was in 12th grade English Class. One of the wackjob teachers ran in and said the WTC was attacked. We laughed at her after the teacher went online and saw that "a small plane crashed into the WTC."

After homeroom, I had my next period teacher turn on the TV (one of the only rooms that got cable,) to CNN. The overly dramatic English teacher came in and gasped and screamed at the plane hitting the tower. One of the pretty girls picked at her nails, talking about a party that night, which shocked me that she just didn't care.

At about 10, our PA system reader got on, made a mark that this was "An historic event that we would never forget."

As I drove my friend home, I'll never forget the dazed looks on the faces as every person driving home from getting out of work early was just hearing the goings-on as people went to work without TVs, streaming video and audio back then.

I rode around for about 3 hours, came home. The aunts and my father (all dead,) telephoned each other. I remember them telling me about Pearl Harbor, so this must have been an ode to the past somewhat. They all agreed it was just a bunch of crazies.

Living half way between NYC and Washington, I could remember how quiet it was as all the stores closed and there were no planes in the sky (normally constant air traffic through the middle of the megalopolis.)

Although, I must say, I don't remember ANYBODY crying or anything remotely close to some stories outside of NYC. Were people really crying in droves in other parts of the country? Most people in my area were just shocked or angry.

Was on a plane from Philly to Boston Flew by NYC (flight path from PHL to Boston goes diagonal acrros NJ and hugs the eastern tip of Long Island and over JFK, still climbing at NYC so maybe like 20K feet) probably 30 mins before the first tower was hit. Found out what was going in a rental car at the tunnel in Boston. By the time I reached my meeting in Waltham MA they had evacuated the building. I ended driving back to Philly in the rental car. Seeing the plumes of smoke rising from lower Manhattan was surreal. Had to go around - went across the Newburgh bridge and down 287 and could see the smoke clouds clear as day early evening.

Arriving back at Philadelphia was surreal. No cars at the rental car location and a line waiting for cars to come in. I pulled up 4 people basically loaded in. I had to get police escort to get my car out of the garage at the airport. On the whole the most surreal day (and sad) day of my life

On a side note, the weather was perfect- amazing blue skies, no humidity and 70 degrees

8th grade. Watched the second plane crash live and we were watching t.v. in the rest of my class periods (even P.E.) until they let us out of school early.
There were rumors that Disney World was going to be targeted.

I was working night shift at that time. I had just got home and got out of the shower when I heard them discussing it on the news. I stayed up all that day in front of the TV and then had to work that night.

I was 9, living in Oregon at the time. By the time I got up for school, both towers had probably fallen, so all I saw on the news was a live shot of smoke over he Manhattan skyline. I had no clue what was going on, and neither did anyone on the school bus to school. The principal greeted us and told us to go to class, where we had a mostly normal day with the TV running in the background.
Our friend from Indiana was supposed to fly in to see us that day, but of course her flight was cancelled.

Seems odd that anyone would have had school that day. I was in the 5th grade then and every school (and offices as well) in the Pittsburgh area shut down that day. Flight 93 actually flew over Allegheny County and only 10 miles away from Downtown Pittsburgh (which caused a lot of fear in the Downtown area once word spread a plane was flying over the area that couldn't be contacted).
