Ooops, actually that is a typo. Sorry. It was meant to be SD.

I'll go fix it. Well, the edit button is gone so I guess too much time has gone by.

Gangs are prominent due to illegal immigration. MS 13 became huge after we deported them all. They recruited then returned to the US even stronger. Why do you think border states have so much crime?

I doubt that there's much gang activity in Alaska.

We live in a pretty nice neighborhood, yet, 2 months after we moved here, a wall in our development was 'tagged'. That never would have happened in suburban NJ, for instance. A state with a almost equal population to New Mexico, West Virginia, seems not to have many gangs, in contrast to New Mexico, anyway. It set my mind to wondering: which state has the lowest gang activity per population? Crime is often a determining factor when it comes to relocating to a place, especially if there are children involved. I'd love to be able to research it more, but in the meantime, thought I'd throw it out to the forum here to read feedback.
North Dakota.

I agree with the 'colder' States like South Dakota.

The states with the least violent crime are North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. Northern New England (Maine-Vermont-New Hampshire) is safe too. These areas would have the least gangs.

Some would say it's the cold weather, but demographic factors, and the lack of big cities play a role as well.

That's really sad. When I lived in Milwaukee in the 1960s and 70s it was so safe that you could keep your doors unlocked.

I lived by the Northridge mall area and it was so safe and civilized. The people were super nice and non-violent. I was shocked to hear that the area became so violent and gang infested that they had to close the mall down.

When I was a kid I saw my first movie at the Mill road theater. It was a safe non-violent utopia back then. The guys were so nice we would call them wimps today. I was horrified to hear they had to close that theater down because of gang shootings and stabbings.

I'm sorry to say but my great-grandfather is a reason Milwaukee is so violent. He was an active Socialist and believed in things like building public housing projects outside of the center city. He meant well, but I have no doubt in my mind that his socialist ideas he had 50-100 years ago are the exact reason Milwaukee is so violent today.
