I once dated a girl who thought that "New England" was a state based on the name the "New England Patriots." Here's the best part: she believed this well into her 20s AND she even had a college degree!

I used to only think there was the east coast and the west coast. It took me a while to find out that there was stuff in the middle.

I grew up a few blocks from the Mississippi river. I didn't realize how wide it really is until I got older and traveled and saw the Colorado river and others that I assumed were close in size to the Mississippi.

And for whatever reason, when I was a kid I thought the Cincinnati Reds baseball team played somewhere in the southwest U.S.

I also grew up along the mighty Mississippi. I still laugh when I hear people talk about rivers that are the size of what we call creeks back home.

I had a puzzle with pieces for the 50 states. 1 state 1 piece. So since Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas were joined I did not realize they were separated by water for years. Hawaii oddly enough I knew were islands even though it was one piece. I guess it was obvious to my parents to point out that it wasn't one big land mass.

I thought San Francisco was just as big as New York and I also thought the California state capitol building was the US capitol. A child's world is very small.

I've met people (grown up, adults) who thought New Mexico was part of Mexico and that you needed a passport to visit and had to change your dollars into pesos. These were people that lived in Texas, a state that borders New Mexico.
