With the gas prices going up do you still plan on taking a vacation this year to another state? I was planning a trip late Spring which would take about 4000 miles round trip however I’m rethinking this a little more. Most people seem to reduce their city driving trips and now it might be some of the pleasure out of state trips? What about taking a shorter trip near your home state?

Even if gas goes up to $5.00 per gallon, I will still take my vacation. I live in Connecticut and am planning to take a road trip out to the midwest. I will also do another weekend getaway to Maine.

We will. It's like an extra $75.

What vacation?! LOL Seriously though, I may push it up a month since the media is continuously saying gas prices should be near $4.50 around here by Memorial Day.

Well, I have little interest in road-tripping or doing "staycations" in my state, but we do enjoy some semi-local events that require some driving.

However, the cost in airfares has already affected my traveling bug. We're not flying a mere 1000 to Palm Springs for $400, so we just won't go. But we are definitely taking a trip to New Orleans in Oct, so I am saving dilligently for it while constantly watching fare specials over the next several months. I think regular rates on flying will only get worse if fuel costs continue to rise.

We will also drive down to Northern Calif in September. We'll deal with it.

What's upsetting to me, is that after 9/11 more Americans decided to try more domestic vacations, which was good for our own economy. But gasoline prices have been challenging that effort in the last several years. I really do have the conspiracy theory that there is a deliberate effort to squash our economy via oil.

It probably is happening!

Although the idea of me getting a vacation is laughable. I'm young and entering the workforce I don't get the same freedoms others enjoy. :P It won't be a huge issue for me, although a commute would be bad for me.

was going to take the wife, kids and MIL on a trip out west to see the National Parks. Still going to go but we've decided to hitch-hike instead.

You will. For many people it takes awhile to even develope an idea or interest on where to go and what to do for vacations. I was in my mid-30's when I picked up the itch. So it will come.
