I spent my childhood and teens mostly in Seattle and Boston, then when I was 18, I finally moved out to Los Angeles.
After five years in LA and one year in SF, I moved up to Seattle.
It was absolutely awful. I had no idea that the ability to handle cold would ever be stripped out of me, but it was. The grey skies and lack of sunshine sapped my energy, and I rarely actually felt like waking up. When I'd go out to go on a run and it was in the 30's and sprinking, I'd get maybe a half mile and feel like giving up (comparatively speaking, 5 miles had been my norm in CA). Then it snowed... I hadn't had to get up at 4.30am to trudge through the snow since I was back in Mass, and I forgot how much I'd disliked it then.
I moved back to CA and do not in any way, shape, or form regret the decision. There is absolutely no way I will ever consider living in another colder, northern climate ever again... the effect it had on my health and happiness was too much. I understand that plenty of people LOVE cold weather and don't want anyone to take any of this as a dig towards their preference at all, but for me? No thanks....
My dad, on the other hand, was raised in the South and was initially stationed in sunny San Diego when he joined the Navy. Then, they moved him up to Alaska, and he absolutely loved it and has never given cosideration to living in a hot climate ever since (which in turn is why I was raised in colder climates).
Moved from Jacksonville, FL to Boston to NH and I love it up here! Love seeing the different progressions of the seasons and this winter has been a piece of cake.

We moved from California, the San Francisco Bay Area to the Seattle area. As did sister, a brother, my parents, and my mother in law within a few years. All of us are glad we made the move and are very happy here.
Despite double the rain, much colder winters, and milder summers, the
natural beauty, green forests, rivers, lakes and mountains are well worth
it. Not to mention clean air, stars visible at night, and any activity you could want within less than an hour drive. I used to hate late August/Early September even as a kid when it was 100-105. Here it's 70s-80s.
In 1994 I moved from Orange County, CA to Portland, OR. I moved because I got a job here, and I like it because it's green and laid-back.
I feel ya, I was dragged here by my parents when I was 12 and I'm almost 20. I plan to move back within the next couple years or wherever I end up going to university.
I moved from Houston to Philly specifically to escape the suffocatingly endless hot and humid weather. Do I like it? Hell yea.
