Just curious as to which New England state you think has cheaper COL. It is known that the New England states are generally pretty expensive, but my husband and I have always wanted to move to the area. Where we live now is pretty expensive as well and we're hoping to find something that works. We have a chance to be able to move to 6 different towns in the NE area due to my husbands job, and I'm not sure which would be best for us. As much as I like living on Long Island, my husband is not incredibly happy and would like to move somewhere with more freshwater fishing and hopefully cheaper living.
The towns are:
Woburn, MA
West Springfield, MA
Rocky Hill, CT
Orange, CT
Warwick, RI
S Portland, ME
Do any of those towns or towns nearby them have rentals for a 1br 1ba for under 900 a month?
Of your list I would vote for South Portland, Maine. The Portland area is beautiful and in my opinion offers the most to do in comparison to others on your list. Good luck!
I agree with South Portland. I believe it has the lowest COL of the cities on your list, and is a good buy in the Portland metro area, as far as the cost of a home goes. Plus the Portland metro is small but lively, and sits in an area of immense natural beauty. Plenty of things to do.
Does anyone here know if S. Portland has a lot of freshwater fishing for largemouth bass? Or should I ask this on the Portland, ME forum?
I lived in Portland for 3 years, I would say no. There is a lot of fishing, though, some bass, some alewife, but mostly trout. I would prefer Portland over South Portland, in my opinion, but if you move to South Portland avoid living in Red Bank.
You can ask in the Portland, ME. forum, but it not that active. People tend to stick to the overall Maine forum even for ?s and thoughts regarding Portland.
The most important consideration would be employment, but if that issue is settled, then I would also take Portland. Springfield, MA has some problems, and Woburn would be too expensive.
I would have to say Portland also, anything in MA and CT would be expensive and finding an apartment for under 900 in a decent area is going to hard. Never really been to Warwick but i imagine it would also be on the more expensive side also.
