I was born in NYC. I really wish I could have been born in Canada, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand. All of these countries gave automatic citizenship to those born there at the time of my birth. It would have been cool to be a dual citizen of both the US and one of these countries, especially Ireland and have access to the entire EU. Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand don't allow that anymore, but Canada still does. When I have kids, I would love for them to be born in Canada. I think dual US-Canadian citizenship would be a great thing to have.
Other than that, I'm very happy to have been born in NYC, and more importantly in the US.
I was born in New Orleans and wouldn't have it any other way!
I was born in New Orleans, lived in Texas for a while, and then moved back.
It took some adjusting to life in Texas, and then again when I came back home.
Sometimes I really wish I had been born in a more "normal" place- Houston, Kansas City, wherever... and then experienced discovering New Orleans. I'm actually pretty jealous of people that move here and are transfixed by the site of a daiquiri shop or some of the old architecture- I cherish my hometown's culture, but to me it is what "normal" is supposed to be.
This thread revived something I have ofen wondered. Does it really matter where one is born? What would make a person want to be born in another place other than citizenship benefits? I know some people tend to look up to or down on people from certain places, but in that case, is it the people born there or the residents? Another reason I ask if it matters where one is born is because once we are adults, we are free to choose where we want to live. I'm not knocking the question, just trying to add to the discussion and get some further insight into something that I sometimes wondered about.
